Unkel ist eine Stadt im Landkreis Neuwied im Norden von Rheinland-Pfalz und Verwaltungssitz der gleichnamigen Verbandsgemeinde. Die Stadt liegt etwa 20 Kilometer südlich von Bonn am unteren Mittelrhein und hat Anteil am Naturpark Rhein-Westerwald.
Bekannt ist sie sowohl durch ihren Ruf als Rotweinstadt als auch als Wohnsitz vieler bekannter Persönlichkeiten wie etwa Willy Brandt, Stefan Andres, Ferdinand Freiligrath, Leonhard Reinirkens, Konrad Adenauer oder Annette von Droste-Hülshoff.
